Southwest Houston is considered to be the home of fencing to many people, and the craftmanship and unique style of Southwest Houston wood fencing is the inspiration for our Master series wood fencing. Wood fencing is the best option for durability, affordability, beauty, and sustainability in the market today, and Superior Fence & Rail is your Southwest Houston wood fence company of choice. Wood fence is affordable, offers privacy and has a beautiful natural look that compliments landscaping and other outdoor garden features. At Superior Fence & Rail we offer several different species of lumber to allow our customers to choose the best option for their budget and preference. Our customers can choose from Premium Treated Pickets (PTP), Japanese Cedar, or Western Red Cedar fencing.
Western Red Cedar is the premium choice for fencing and other outdoor structures. There are many fencing options, but no other product combines the beauty, stability, and longevity of Western Red Cedar. Western Red Cedar contains natural tannin oils that protect the lumber from insects, rot, and decay. Western red cedar fence lumber is sustainably sourced from the Pacific Northwest, where three trees are planted to replace one tree that is harvested. Our standard Western Red Cedar grade is #1-2Face, which is the highest quality board produced with knots. The boards will have tight, sound knots with little defect. Upgrade to clear grade is available for all fences.
Japanese cedar, not to be confused with Chinese or Incense cedar, has come into popularity recently and is a highly regarded fencing material with a lower price than western red cedar. Japanese cedar is exceptionally durable, and all components are imported kiln dried for better appearance and performance. Japanese cedar fence lumber is waterproof and contains tannins to help withstand insect damage and decay.
For our budget conscious customers we offer our premium treated white wood fence lumber. With pressure-treated framework and steel posts, our premium treated white wood fence lumber comes standard with a 10-year warranty against insect damage. The pickets have a pre-stained finish that gives our customers the look of western red cedar fencing, without the additional price tag.
All of our Japanese cedar and Western Red Cedar fences are available in pre-stained options in Medium or Dark Brown. Additional colors are available but may incur longer lead times and pricing.
We use premium oil-based wood fence stain to protect your fence from the elements and enhance your fence’s natural beauty. Our wood fence staining services are great for Homeowners Association (HOA) communities that require routine fence maintenance and stain annually.
We use heavy duty lumber to build your wood fence. The specification we use is derived from the Miami-Dade wind code. In other words, we build your wood fence to the highest possible building standard. The only difference is we install most of our wood fences with posts every eight feet instead of every four feet, unless otherwise specified. Our specification includes:
You get a heavy duty fence that will withstand the toughest conditions.
We build your wood fence from scratch on site. We set every post in concrete so your posts won’t shift or lean. We nail up every board one by one using hot-dipped galvanized ring shank nails that won’t rust or pull apart. This allows for a custom construction that is stronger than pre-built panels. Your wood fence is built to last.
Our Crockett board on board style wood fencing offers complete privacy with overlapping boards while our Duncan stockade side by side wood fencing offers privacy with boards that abut one another but do not overlap. Our Mcintosh shadowbox style wood fencing offers some privacy but is not completely opaque when viewed from an angle and therefore offers less wind resistance.
Although wood fencing is not as durable or long-lasting as vinyl or aluminum fencing, with some preventative maintenance, your wood fence can still look good for years. Staining and sealing offers surface protection against weathering, fading and changes in climate.
We make all the standard styles of wood fence and also customize wood fencing for customers who have specific ideas about what type of wood fencing will accentuate their home. Please call one of our salespeople today to get an estimate for your new wood fence.
Wood fences bring a classic natural look to properties. It is difficult to mimic the true beauty of natural wood. The color variations and random wood grain and knot patterns can never be wholly replicated. For this reason, many clients prefer a wood fence. Superior wood fences offer privacy and protection just like our vinyl and aluminum fences with the authenticity of natural wood.
Superior wood fences begin with superior wood
Superior Fence & Rail builds high-quality wood fences from all our 100+ locations. All our wood fences are constructed with high quality lumber. In addition, the wood specification meets Miami-Dade wind codes, ensuring that your Superior wood fence will endure even toughest weather conditions.
Sealing, painting, and staining wood fences
While synthetic fences require very little maintenance, your Superior wood fence will require maintenance to ensure your fence continues to look beautiful for years to come. Finishing your fence with a sealant, stain, or paint is highly recommended for protection from the effects of sun, rain, and temperature changes on your wood. Depending on weather conditions and the pre-treatment process your wood has undergone, your wood fence should ideally be sealed, painted, or stained within 30 days to 6 weeks after installation. You do not want to seal your fence immediately after construction. Allowing 4 – 6 weeks will allow the wood to expand and contract with the amount of sunlight and temperature variations of your local climate.
Sealing your wood fence will offer a barrier against water. Wood sealers are available in transparent or semi-transparent options allowing the natural beauty of your wood to shine through. It is recommended to apply a wood sealer that also contains UV stabilizers to lessen the impact of sun exposure. You should reseal your wood annually for continuous protection.
In order to stain your wood fence, the wood must be completely dry. To determine if your wood is ready to be stained, sprinkle water onto it surface. If the water beads, your wood is not ready to properly accept staining. Wait a few days, and retest until the water no longer beads from the surface of your wood. Select a stain with the longest manufacturer’s warranty. Be sure that your stain also has a UV stabilizer and a water repellent.
When painting your wood fence, choose an alkyd oil-based primer. You must prime every surface of your wood, including cut ends. Finish with two coats of top-quality acrylic latex paint. As with staining, you must be certain that your wood is completely dry before priming and painting. Perform the sprinkle test by applying a few drops of water onto the surface of your wood. If any beading occurs, wait, and test again in a few days. Paint must be reapplied as needed to maintain a beautiful finish. This could be annually, or otherwise, depending on your environmental conditions and the location of your wood fence.
Cleaning your wood fence
A low-pressure cleaning with a pressure washer will help keep the surface of your wood free of dirt and mold. Use a mild soap that is formulated specifically for cleaning pressure-treated wood. Do not use high-pressure cleaning methods, or keep your pressure washing wand concentrated on one area. Once your fence has been cleaned, allow it to completely dry, and reapply your weather-repelling sealant or stain.
Wood fence inspection, replacement, and disposal
Superior Fence & Rail will build your wood fence with only the best materials, including fasteners. We use only hot-dipped galvanized ring shank nails to prevent rusting or wood separation. You should inspect your wood fence in regular intervals, noting any irregularities in your wood and your fasteners.
If you have wood fence components that are being replaced, treated wood should be disposed of in landfills or burned in commercial incinerators or boilers. Never burn wood from your fence in open fires, fireplaces, stoves, or residential boilers.
Wood fence warranty
Building Superior wood fences with Superior lumber means that your fence line will remain beautiful and strong for many years to come. Warranties vary by species of lumber, but typically include a 10-15 year warranty against termite damage and rot.
Natural wood manifestations
There are many factors that will determine the overall performance of your wood fence. Superior Fence & Rail recommends finishing your fence to further protect your wood from the harmful effects of the environment. What are some of the natural properties of wood, which you might expect with your wood fence?
As wood dries, it will shrink slightly. Superior Fence & Rail will build your wood fence to minimize gaps that might occur between wood components. Other natural occurrences in wood properties might be splitting along the grain, bowing, or twisting. Such occurrences are dictated by the original cutting of the lumber, down to amount of moisture absorption. Wood will naturally undergo color fading. Treated wood starts with a green hue, but as the treatment dries, your wood fence will fade to brown or weathered gray. You can achieve the wood color you wish by using a high-quality stain with UV protection and water repellence.
