How Much Will Your Cary Fence Installation Cost?
You finally decided to build a fence on your Cary property. Congratulations! It is a big decision. It will change the look of your property and will most likely add value to your property. You may have some money set aside for your new fence, or you may want to finance your fence. Either way, you are anxious to start as soon as possible. But, how much will it cost to build your fence?
Factors to Consider When Pricing Your Cary Fence Installation
Size and shape of your yard. One of the biggest factors in the cost of your new fence is the size and shape of your yard. If your yard is large or unusually shaped, it will take more material and labor than a simple small square yard.
Material you choose. Another one of the most significant factors in the cost of your fence is the material you select based on the type of fence you’ve decided to build. The price of your fence can vary tremendously if you select a chain link fence versus a wooden fence, or if you select a vinyl fence or an aluminum fence. You may need a fence for a pool or a fence for a dog. The cost of material matters and this decision will greatly impact the cost of your fence.
Survey. Building a fence requires a survey. You want to make sure you don’t encroach on your neighbor’s property. If you do not have a survey handy (Hint: look in the documentation from your home closing), you may need to have a new survey re-drawn. Fees for a survey typically run approximately $500 across the Southeast.
Permit. Cary, NC only requires a fence permit if the fence is adjacent to a thoroughfare or collector roadway, or if the fence exceeds eight feet (8’) in height. Given that, some municipalities will fine fence owners for not having a proper permit (and those fees can be quite large!), so it’s always best to be proactive and to check with the city of Cary before you start, to be sure that your project does not require any special permitting. To obtain a permit, most cities require that you provide a survey and fence plans, and then pay a fee.
Height of Your Fence. Fencing comes in different heights. You may want a higher fence for additional privacy, however, you may live in a neighborhood with an HOA (homeowner’s association), which may have a restriction on fence height. Be sure to check HOA covenants and restrictions to make sure you are within proper limits, or be prepared to file for an exception, or to perhaps pay a fine.
Preparation of Your Yard. Are there many large rocks or trees on your property that may need to be cleared before installing your fence, or is it mostly soil or clay? Does your land need to be graded before installing your fence?
Gates. How many gates or entryways do you want in your new fence? Will they require security features? Each gate comes with additional hardware and increases the complexity of installation, which will increase the overall cost of the fence.
