In this blog, we will embark on a tour of the up-and-coming and trending fence colors for this year. We will also discuss the reasoning behind their popularity and share advice on best integrating them into your anticipated new or replacement fence project.
Trending Fence Colors – What The Experts Are Saying …
If you want to discuss color theory and stay in line with the hottest trends, you can look to Pantone for advice. The Pantone Color of the Year program engages the design community and color enthusiasts in a conversation around color, highlighting the relationship between color and culture. Pantone selects a color each year that captures the global zeitgeist—the Color of the Year express a global mood and an attitude, reflecting collective desire in the form of a single, distinct hue. This year’s Pantone color of the year is called Mocha Mousse. This warm, rich brown hue brings to mind some of the delicacies we all enjoy, such as coffee and chocolate.
Although Superior Fence and Rail doesn’t offer an exact match to this color, many of our natural wooden fences mimic the warm tones this color delivers. As a wooden fence ages, be it pine, cedar, or redwood, its tones may deepen or become lighter depending on its environment. Many wooden fence owners embrace these changes as part of the natural beauty of wood. Regularly maintaining your fence will enable you to retain its original color for a longer time as well.
We would also like to mention that our Trex fence offers a nice color selection. Specifically, many of our locations offer a warm brown color option called Saddle. This color very much resembles the color of the year mentioned above.
Custom Colors, Including Painting Or Staining Your Fence
Where wood fencing is concerned, our Superior Fence & Rail clients can always paint or stain their fences. This will allow for a custom color of their choosing. Although we are the nation’s highest-rated fence company, we do not offer staining or painting services for our fences. We can, however, offer you this advice if you are considering doing so …
Sealing Your Wood Fence
Sealing your wood fence will offer a barrier against water. Wood sealers are available in transparent or semi-transparent options, allowing your wood’s natural beauty to shine through. Applying a wood sealer containing UV stabilizers is recommended to lessen the impact of sun exposure. You should reseal your wood annually for continuous protection.
Staining Your Wood Fence
To stain your wood fence, the wood must be completely dry. To determine if your wood is ready to be stained, sprinkle water onto its surface. If the water beads, your wood is not ready to properly accept staining. Wait a few days, and retest until the water no longer beads from the surface of your wood. Select a stain with the longest manufacturer’s warranty. Ensure your stain also has a UV stabilizer and a water repellent.
Painting Your Wooden Fence
When painting your wood fence, choose an alkyd oil-based primer. You must prime every surface of your wood, including cut ends. Finish with two coats of top-quality acrylic latex paint. As with staining, you must ensure your wood is completely dry before priming and painting. Perform the sprinkle test by applying a few drops of water onto the surface of your wood. If any beading occurs, wait and test again in a few days. Paint must be reapplied as needed to maintain a beautiful finish. This could be annually or otherwise, depending on your environmental conditions and the location of your wood fence.
Vinyl Fence Color Trends
Up-and-coming vinyl fence colors that are gaining momentum include gray, brown, and natural textured wood tones. Superior Fence & Rail locations offer a varied palette of color options for vinyl fencing. We designed each of our vinyl fences specifically for our clientele, using the highest quality components on the market. One important feature to mention regarding Superior vinyl fences is how we incorporate innovative features such as SolarShield into our designs. Since the harmful rays of the sun can discolor standard vinyl fencing. All Superior Fences come standard with SolarShield, a proprietary acrylic blend that protects your fence from the sun’s harmful UV rays. SolarShield is a protective outer layer engineered to reduce oxidation significantly and the damaging effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Even in harsh climates, SolarShield protects the color and sheen of our products for a longer period of time.
Among the various colors available, white is and has remained one of the most popular colors in vinyl fencing. White stands out as a timeless favorite that adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to any fencing project.

Trending Aluminum Fencing Colors
Black aluminum is trending and always a solid choice for a fence. One benefit of choosing a black aluminum fence is that it disappears among the scenery. This enables you to better retain views of areas beyond your property or within it, should you wish to see into a specific space. Dark colors like chocolate brown and black also meld beautifully with your existing landscaping and treeline.
Another honorable mention that Superior Fence & Rail is receiving more requests for is white aluminum. A white aluminum fence delivers a fresh, crisp look that instantly brightens outdoor spaces. It provides a clean, well-maintained appearance often associated with traditional and country-style homes, hence the popularity of the modern farmhouse in recent years. Using this bright, timeless color creates a sense of purity and adds a touch of charm to your property.
